SUMMER 2026

THE WAY A HOME FEELS

We often think of architecture and building as what a home looks like, but so much of what makes a home work has less to do with how it appears and more to do with how it feels day to day, like the way light moves through a room in the morning, how spaces quietly connect, how materials come together, or how a layout supports the rhythm of everyday life.

The homes that stay with you tend to strike this simple balance. They feel good to be in. They make sense as you move through them. There’s an ease where design and function don’t compete, and the idea of the home and the way it’s built are working in the same direction.

We’ve had the opportunity to work on some incredible projects this year, and each one reflects this idea in its own way. Working alongside our clients, we bring their vision to life by creating homes that feel as good as they look. It’s a collaborative process that results in spaces that are beautiful, functional, and thoughtfully designed for the people who live in them.

COLONIAL REIMAGINED

RESIDENTIAL REMODEL  | BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA

Originally built in the late 1970s by the client’s grandfather, this multigenerational colonial home carried decades of history within its walls. The goal of this full renovation was not to replace that history, but to carefully preserve it while transforming the home for a new era of living. Art Deco influences appear throughout in lighting, hardware, and detailing, but are interpreted in a modern and highly customized way. Bold color choices further distinguish each living space. The home doesn’t follow a single style, but instead reflects a deeply personal design process and vision shaped by how the family wanted to live in the home.

RENOVATION IN MERIDIAN HILLS

RESIDENTIAL REMODEL  |  INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA

Developed in the mid-twentieth century as Indianapolis expanded northward, Meridian Hills became home to a distinctive collection of ranch, colonial, and modernist residences. This whole home renovation reimagines one of its original 1950s homes into a refined, highly functional living space designed for modern life. The homeowners partnered with Felt Space, led by Nikki Sutton and Eric Anderson, and were referred to our team for construction due to our experience with large-scale renovations and historically significant architecture. What began as a dated home in need of structural repairs and full mechanical updates evolved into a carefully detailed, elegant renovation guided by a strong design vision and executed with precision.

Built on the north side of Bloomington, this new home showcases the kind of complex, high-efficiency residential construction that defines our work. The homeowners came to us after hearing from multiple sources that we were the right team to bring their vision to life. For the design scope, we recommended Springpoint Architects as a trusted partner who shared the vision and values for the project. From there, we collaborated closely to build a modern, energy-efficient home that supports the needs of their family. The result is a seamless blend of thoughtful design and high-performance construction.

This remodel in Indianapolis’ Meridian Park neighborhood focused on restoring cohesion to a 1920s Craftsman home while thoughtfully adapting it for a growing family. The scope included a full renovation of the kitchen, solarium, dining room, powder room, and mudroom, each space reimagined to improve function while preserving architectural integrity. There was a shared commitment between the client and team to honor the home’s original character. The result is a more cohesive expression of the home’s original design, with every decision guided by a respect for what would have been true to the home’s period and character.

LWB team model

When it comes to custom residential construction, there are several ways to structure the relationship between the homeowner, builder, and design team. Over the years, we’ve successfully worked within each of the models outlined in this article. But time and time again, we’ve seen one approach consistently yield the most thoughtful, well-executed outcomes: a collaborative team structure built on trust, communication, and shared goals.
